Public telephones cost P2 per minute and need to be fed P1 each additional minute. They're found anywhere from schools, malls, outside restaurants, to other stopovers. Landlines inside shops or cigarette booths cost P5 for the first 3 minutes.
If you need assistance about directions or telephone numbers, you can call 187 (they charge P3 per minute) or look it up in the yellow pages.

For overseas calls, you can either avail of operator assistance (108 for international and 109 for national), or you can purchase prepaid cards called Fonkard. These come in P100; P300, P500 dinominations. For an overseas calls to the US, for example, a P100 card gives you 15 minutes airtime. Fonkards are usually available in hotels, airports and malls.

The Tourist Assistance Unit (TAU) operates 24 hours to assist tourists in trouble.

Texting capital of the world:

The Philippines does indeed have the most number of texters/SMS users - or simply people who have the itchy finger syndrome - in the whole world. You're charged P1 per text, P6 per local call and International calls are 40 cents/minutes.
